Why did a lapsed member get charged twice when he renewed?

If you don't want a lapsed member to accidentally pay two renewal invoices when they next renew, then you need to check the Void renewal notice checkbox in the Renewal reminders and actions section of the Renewal policy tab for that level. 

With this option enabled, the membership renewal invoice will be automatically voided for members with a status of Pending - Renewal if not fully paid within the specified number of days following the renewal date. 

Without this option enabled, old renewal invoices will still appear along with newer ones on members' Invoices and payments tab.
